GLADYS CARPENTER BOVIE Soprano and Reader
The Harmony Concert Co.
I
N THE HARMONY CONCERT COMPANY
we offer a popular trio, versatile, but not too versatile to do well what they attempt.
They make a specialty of ensemble selections but each is a soloist and does excellent work as an individual artist. We commend the company.
Its personnel is as follows:
Gladys Carpenter Bovie, Soprano and Reader
M
RS. BOVIE studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, in Chicago, and in Boston, and has taught music. For several seasons she sang in light opera roles and in oratorios in Chicago and Boston. She has been soloist at the Bay View Chautauqua Assembly on several occasions. In the Harmony Company she will appear in solos, in duets and in trios, as well as present a variety of humorous and dramatic readings.
Barbara Kerns, Contralto and Pianist
M
ISS KERNS is almost a perfect accompanist and a fine solo pianist. She has a pleasing contralto voice, heard to excellent advantage in the ensemble singing of the company.
Master Reuben Reed, Soprano
A
BOY of charming personality, naturally musical, trained for several years by Mrs. Bovie, Master Reed will please everybody with his rendition of sacred songs, as well as by his comedy in impersonating the famous comedian, Harry Lauder. He is an artistic singer and a splendid entertainer. His voice blends beautifully with the other two voices, and the ensemble singing of the company is one of the strong features of their program.

Comments
Gallipolis, Ohio, Journal
—The Chautauqua program Sunday by the Harmony Company was a rare musical treat, a success that brought applause and encore and whole-souled, earnest congratulations. Mrs. Gladys Carpenter Bovie's several renditions were marked with artistic effect. The full rounded notes of her mezzo-soprano voice were highly sumpathetic[sicsympathetic], the enunciation conveying the song and sentiment into a blended appreciation of the poem. The accompaniments of Miss Barbara Kerns were delightful, and her piano solos brilliant.

Kanawha Citizen, Charleston, W. Va.
—The Harmony Company made a decidedly good impression and has proved one of the drawing cards of the season.
Charleston, W. Va., Gazette
—The Harmony Company is one of more than passing note, each member of the organization is an artist of no mean ability, and the renditions last night were of the class that wins friends for the presenters.
Columbus, Ohio, Dispatch
—Master Reuben Reed sang delightfully two sacred selections, and his winning voice and simple manner won hearty applause.
Petoskey, Mich., Daily Reporter
—The Bay View Assembly program last evening consisted of the productions of Mendelssohn's
Elijah
by the Assembly soloists and chorus. The contralto role was taken by Mrs. Gladys Carpenter Bovie, and the well-known aria,
Oh Rest in the Lord,
displayed a voice of rare beauty as well as thoughtful, artistic interpretation.
The production of the
Mikado
by the Assembly Chorus and soloists was a most enjoyable occasion. The role of Katisha fell to Mrs. Gladys Carpenter Bovie, and her amusing love scene quite took the audience by storm. Her impersonation of the ugly old maid was an artistic triumph.
