FATHER E. M. LAYCOCK, Lecturer
INTRODUCTORY
FATHER LAYCOCK, a descendant of an old English family and an eminent Catholic divine, has devoted many years to lecturing and preaching. Only recently has he consented to enter the lyceum field and we are pleased to have been able to secure the management of his lecture tours. He has been eminently successful both as a lecturer and preacher, and there is a constant demand for return appearances. Father Laycock is a growing lecturer—growing in strength and public favor. A successful career is behind him, but a more magnificent one ahead. Probably no missionary of his Church has ever attracted larger crowds and been more successful in holding their attention, reaching the heart through an appeal to the intellect. On the lecture platform Father Laycock is unique and original, giving a lecture that is logical, entertaining, convincing and of vital interest. He at once demands and commands attention, and his audience is held and carried with him, not only to the end of his speaking, but also with impressions that can never be effaced. We take pleasure in announcing him for his great lecture, Footprints on the Sands of Time
Editorial in St. Joseph's Collegian, St. Joseph's College Rensselaer, Ind.
Father Laycock has a very pleasing yet convincing manner of imparting his ideas and lessons. In his facility for apt and forcible illustrations, he is rarely equalled. His power consists in vividness of description and pathetic appeals to the heart, which cannot fail to respond warmly to his glowing words.
Evansville (Ind.) Courier
The building was packed and jammed with people. Hundreds were turned away from the doors, owing to the limited seating capacity. The audience was charmed with the eloquent words that fell from the lips of Father Laycock, and the people were delighted with his earnestness and sincerity. A listener would imagine the age of miracles has not passed. Wonderful, indeed, was the influence he exercised over the people, and the potency of the spell he cast around them. Never in the history of the West Side has there been such an awakening of the people, or such an anxiety to hear a public speaker.
Kenton (Ohio) Press
Father Laycock completely won the hearts and held the attention of his hearers. The people thoroughly enjoyed his lectures and consider him one of the most successful lecturers that has appeared here during the last thirty years.
Princeville (Ind.) Daily News
On Tuesday night every seat in the building was taken and Father Laycock was listened to from beginning to end with unabated interest. The fact that Father Laycock has had a world wide experience makes him an interesting talker at all times, and clothing as he does his thoughts with beautiful words, it is a treat to hear him.
Father L. J. Vaughan
I am pleased to send you this unsolicited testimonial of the profound impression you have made in our city. Our people have listened to some of the best talkers on the American platform, but I question whether they have been more interested or impressed by any speaker. I have already many requests that you return in the Spring. I hope you may finally decide to give more of your time and power to lyceum work.
Catholic Columbian Record
Father Laycock lectured each night and held the audience spellbound. A thousand people were in the building, and every inch of available room was taken, hundreds having to be turned away from the door. Father Laycock has made many warm friends here.
Rev. L. Selva, Bement, Ill.
Father Laycock knows how to engage the interest of his audience. His style of oratory is both pleasing and forcible. He strikes from the shoulder and speaks from the heart, as a practical man. He strives to adapt himself to the intelligence of his audience and to the needs of each place as they are brought to his notice, either from suggestions received or by his keen observation of people and things. As he is in the prime of life, I bespeak for him an ever increasing success in his work and for those who engage him good satisfaction.
Rev. J. H. Schenberger, Delhi, Ohio
Father Laycock is a most powerful speaker and very happy in the development and most convincing in the conclusion of his arguments. While here the building was crowded with attentive listeners each night, and they paid the closest attention to his most interesting and instructive lectures.
The Catholic Columbian Record
Father Laycock is not much over thirty-four years old, but is an unusually attractive speaker and thoroughly captured the community, and there was a general feeling of regret that the lectures could not have been continued another week. The interest and audiences increased nightly. The Reverend Lecturer has all the qualities essential to success, and as a speaker is powerful and logical. He aroused great enthusiasm and many hope for his speedy return.
Michigan City (Ind.) Daily
Father Bleckmann is chaplain at the State prison and through his efforts, the prisoners enjoyed the benefit of three lectures given by Father Laycock. These services were held in the prison chapel. It was a touching and never to be forgotten sight to see these men marched in by their guards, single file, and witness the tears which actually rolled down their cheeks as Father Laycock spoke to them. The hardest heart could not fail to be melted.
