SOWING WILD OATS.
The Kallikak Family, illustrated below, from the work of Dr. Henry H. Goddard, by special personal permission, is one of the most startling revelations in social problems and heredity ever given to the world.  A young man of splendid ancestry steps aside for a moment sows wild oats and begets a race of degenerates.  He later marries a noble woman and founds a dynasty of able and brilliant descendants. Heredity is the most fascinating subject that has ever engaged the mind of man.  Its experimental study is scarcely ten years old.  No man on the platform has mastered it in all its bearings more completely than Mr. Wiggam.  He has collected all the leading literature of heredity in the world. EUGENICS HAS BECOME A MAGIC WORD
Women's clubs are writing papers about it.  Doctors, educators and reformers are roused about it.  Preachers are vaguely approaching it.  Business men's clubs are studying it.  At the

 recent International Congress on Heredity and Eugenics in London, Mr. Wiggam found the cabman, the hotel bellboy, the shop-keeper, members of the house of commons, lords, dukes and duchesses—all were talking Eugenics.

What, then is Eugenics?  The man in the street wants to know.  (Parlor and club discussions won't answer it).  It is the mightiest question of the age.  It reaches to the borders of society.  It is the new vision of humanity.  The new method of social regeneration.  The new task of mankind.  The new hope of the unborn.

But, it must be based upon natural law, facts, science.  Immense harm will be done by rash and ill-considered statements.  No man can grasp the meaning of Eugenics until he understands the laws of heredity.  Nobody knows these laws except the biologist, the student of the laws of living things.



IS ENVIRONMENT OR HEREDITY MORE IMPORTANT?
This question has been debated for ages.  The biologist does not debate.  He presents facts.  He is the only man who has ever actually studied the problem.  All the destinies of the race, the nation, the future of democracy, the happiness of coming generations hang upon the answer.  What is the answer?  No man can think correctly about education, politics, reform, marriage, or human progress until he has solved once for all the environment-heredity question.


THE CHILDREN
Why is one of these guinea pigs white when both parents are black?  Are any similar facts true of human beings?


This question will be the great social and political battle ground of the future.  But the biologist has already answered it.  Do you care to hear his answers?  Mr. Wiggam devotes his second lecture entirely to this world-old problem.  There is but one method of race-improvement.  Without this method race-improvement is an idle dream. The Eugenics Record Office at Cold Springs Harbor, New York, of which Dr. Chas. B. Davenport of the Carniegie Institution is Director and Mr. H. H. Laughlin is Superintendent, have given Mr. Wiggam much material, helpful suggestions and criticism.  Mr. Wm F. Blades, Prof. F. A. Woods of Harvard and many other noted biologists in America and Europe have also assisted Mr. Wiggam.
