Camille Rathbun's Travels have taken her
around the world 3 times;
across the Atlantic 29 times;
across the Pacific 4 times;
across the equator 10 times;
at least once inside of 90% of all the countries of the world.
After finishing her schooling here, she did work at Sorbonne, Leipsig and Cambridge.
She was commissioned by a U. S. manufacturer to purchase commodities and supplies in England, Germany, France, Portugal and Spain, and to contact customers in Africa, South America and Mexico. This took her to unusually interesting places and off the beaten track.
Mrs. Rathbun has been
in the northernmost settlements of Spitzbergen, in Iceland, in Norway, Denmark and Sweden;
To the Flats of the Yukon and Cities of Alaska;
Through northern and southern U. S. S. R.;
To southernmost Punta Arenas of So. America;
In Dunnedin, the South Island of New Zealand;
Cape Town, in the Union of South Africa;
To the Island of Tasmania, South Australia.
Mrs. Rathbun was in Vienna when Hitler took over. She sailed on the Queen Mary for the United States just as England entered the present war.

Never was there a time when the isles of the Atlantic and the Pacific were so important. Madeira was once a place after which wine was named, and tourists, who put in there occasionally, went toboganning down stone-paved hillsides in sleds that skidded without benefit of snow. The Azores, the Canaries, the Cape Verdes, St. Helena, Ascension, all were pretty names streaming off from pin points on maps. But today these are stepping stones in air conquest of continents. Each is of strategical importance.
Camille Rathbun, globe-trotting lady, has been filming these isles on her many travels. In one of her lectures, which takes you round and about and up and down and inside and outside Africa, she takes you in colored movies, in fascinating talk, to these suddenly important places. St. Helena becomes more than Napoleon's last abode, Madeira more than a wine, the Canaries more than a flock of birds that sing. Lectures made with no thought of timely importance now are of considerable value.
Samoa now is where our navy men stop to mail those extra U. S. postal cards on their way down under to Australia. In glamorous Tahiti the Free French are parading on Main Street of Papeete, readying to fight when the time comes.
Galapagos now is not a spot for shifting fuel tanks on palatial pleasure yachts; and across Postoffice Bay sailors no longer stop for mail. Desolate Charles Island of the Galapagos, so we are told, is not garrisoned by Ecuadorean soldiers.
