UNSOLICITED COMMENTS
NEW ORLEANS ASSOCIATION OF COMMERCE, New Orleans, La.
I think that more favorable comments have come to me as a result of your address before our delegates Thursday than in any of our previous experience … you gave us substantial mental nourishment along with your half hour packed full of refreshment.
H. H. BLAKESLEE.
KIWANIS CLUB, Wilmington, Delaware.
In view of the fact that the members of most service clubs have seen and heard everything, I think you are to be congratulated on the way in which you took our boys by storm yesterday.
H. GARRETT HANBY.
MILWAUKEE CHAPTER, AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF BANKING.
Of all the guest speakers, no one excepted, we have ever had at our annual banquets he was truly the greatest. He not only knows how to tell a story, but when to tell it. He made us grin, smile and laugh for one solid hour, but more important he made us think. No organization will err by calling Dr. Dern.
A. J. ANDERSON, President.
THE EXECUTIVE CLUB, Chicago, III.
Dr. Dern is one of the country's prime gloom chasers. The moral of his talk will stick with you for years, perhaps for the rest of your life.
ROTARY CLUB, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Your address was very interesting and the humor displayed was wonderful. The recommendations received about you were excellent and you were fully justified in receiving them.
A. L. RANDALL.
NATIONAL FEDERATED CRAFT.
We consider Dr. Dern the equal of any entertainer on the American Platform today. He secures the interest of his audience with his NONSENSE and then drives home his good COMMON SENSE with telling effect.
HENRY M. SEARS, Secretary, National Federated Craft.
TOLEDO TIMES, Toledo, Ohio.
I do want to tell you again how much I enjoyed your luncheon talk. I think you are the best teller of stories I have ever heard.
H. H. HARTLEY, Managing Editor.
BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMAN'S CLUB, Green Bay, Wis.
His spontaneous delivery, his charming smile, his excellent selection of stories and his wholesome philosophy gave the women an evening they will not forget for some time.
JULIA A. SHEA, Chairman.
INDIANA GRAIN DEALERS' ASSN., Indianapolis, Ind.
I do not recall of having so many favorable comments coming voluntarily to my attention following any banquet ever previously held, as was true in the case with our banquet this year.
FRED K. SALE, Secretary.
MILLER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, Cincinnati, Ohio.
I cannot recommend Rev. Dern too highly as a public speaker of his type … I have heard him a number of times and he never grows stale, as he seems to have an unlimited number of good stories.
D. D. MILLER, President.
THE MASONIC NEWS. Editorial.
Rev. Dern possesses a rare and keen fund of humor, to say nothing of exceptional oratorical powers, and has been a powerful attraction wherever he has been booked. He is gifted with that unique power of convulsing his audience with laughter and instantaneously driving home truth of vital importance for mental, moral or spiritual improvement of his hearers.
FARMER'S INSTITUTE, Newtonsville, Ohio.
After your lecture 'Sense and Nonsense' was over we realized that we had been listening to a sermon dressed up in humorous attire. It was one of the finest ever delivered at our Institute. It was enjoyed by both young and old.
T. S. HILL, Chairman.
OPTIMIST CLUB, Covington, Ky.
Your address, 'Sense and Nonsense.' was one of the best and most interesting we have had the pleasure of hearing. We appreciate your effort to dispel gloom and restore confidence which is so necessary at this time.
R. A. COCHRAN, Secretary. Lt. Col., 10th Infantry.
OHIO STATE BUILDING & LOAN CONVENTION, Columbus, Ohio.
Your talk was indeed excellent, and it is easy to see why you are so popular and why your services are in such great demand.
W. M. JAMES, Toastmaster.
ANCIENT AND ACCEPTED SCOTTISH RITE, Cumberland, Md.
Dr. Dern kept the attention and interest of his audience by his brilliant wit … Beneath his stories was a homely but true philosophy of life — one that the world would do well to adopt and practice.
LEANDER SCHAIDT, Secretary.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, Crawfordsville, Ind.
While everyone enjoyed your address, they were particularly impressed by the way in which you wove together your substantial thoughts with your humorous stories. We have never had a speaker who hit the spot any better than you did.
RUSSELL H. THOMPSON, Secretary.
TENTH INFANTRY, Fort Thomas, U. S. A.
Your address was stimulating, thought provoking and helpful in every way. If the young men live up to the ideals which you presented, I am sure they will serve community, state and nation better for having had the privilege of hearing you.
SAMUEL J. SUTHERLAND,
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY CONSISTORY, East St. Louis, III.
Dr. Dern's address was received with enthusiastic expression of pleasure and satisfaction. His stories, interspersed with serious thoughts won the entire approbation of our men.
GEO. B. MOORE, Secretary.

Rev. William Dern delivered one of the most practical, absorbing and appealing addresses ever heard before the Rotary Club. With his 'Sense and Nonsense' he breathed into his address the breath of inspiration, hope and courage.
C. E. PETERSON, Secretary.
THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF CHILLICOTHE, O.
William Dern's address at our Rotary-Teacher Dinner was the best ever. He enabled them to laugh away many of their worries and cares.
W. L. MILLER, Superintendent.
OHIO BUILDING ASSOCIATION LEAGUE, Columbus, Ohio.
I certainly can recommend you to any audience in any line of business, not only for your pleasing address, but for the way that you make men and women think.
JAMES A. DEVINE, Secretary.
ROTARY CLUB, Columbus, Ohio.
A word of appreciation to you on behalf of Group 1 of the Columbus Rotary Club for the very fine address which you made as the closing number of our July program. We want to hear you again.
ROSCOE R. WALCUTT.
CINCINNATI KIWANIS CLUB.
To hear Rev. Dern—whether from the pulpit, platform or the luncheon table—is always an interesting event. His refreshing humor, the quality with which he projects word pictures—makes him, in my opinion, the most interesting and certainly the most entertaining speaker I have heard in many years.
HAROLD J. BARBER, President.
SEYMOUR BUSINESS MEN'S ASSN., Seymour, Ind.
I do not believe it would be possible for any audience to hear such an address without feeling a refreshing influence that will be reflected in their daily life long after you have left the city.
WILLIAM TOPIE, Secretary.
SYRIAN TEMPLE, Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Nobles of Syrian Temple thank Noble Dern for his wonderful humorous lecture 'Here and There and This and That.' It was voted the merriest evening of the season. Come again, Noble.
JNO. G. ROBINSON, Potentate, Syrian Temple.
MASTER PAINTERS & DECORATORS CONVENTION.
Your talk more than justified our introduction and the unanimous opinion of those present was that yours was the most entertaining and delightful that has been delivered before the Ohio Council.
T. J. McCONNELL.
BETHLEHEM M. E. CHURCH, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Each member present was greatly impressed with your philosophy and the humorous manner in which it was presented. The Brotherhood has heard their most interesting speaker.
V. G. HECHT, Pres. Brotherhood.
DAYTON KIWANIS CLUB, Dayton, Ohio
Your address was funny, and this was largely what we wanted to forget our troubles, but more than that, it brought to us some splendid, beautiful lessons to apply to our present day needs and troubles.
OREL J. MYERS.
AD-SELL CLUB, Omaha, Nebr.
Dr. Dern is a brilliant speaker and a constructive humorist. He is a born story teller with no forced humor.
William Dern has spent twenty years in the ministry and for a decade held the rectorship of one of Kentucky's leading churches. In recent years he has devoted much of his time to the lecture platform where he has earned for himself the recognition as one of the Country's leading humorists and story-tellers.
His humor is refreshing, his philosophy is understandable and timely, his religion is practical and appealing. While a denominational clergyman, he is loved and admired by all creeds for whom he has had the honor of speaking. At the banquet table or in the pulpit, his message is one of tolerance for all mankind.
