ERICOURT
THE BRILLIANT PIANIST, DANIEL ERICOURT, is known as one of the most accomplished of younger contemporary French musicians. Born near Paris, he has lived surrounded by music from an early age. He began to play the piano when he was six, and at nine had been admitted to the Paris Conservatoire. There he studied with Santiago Riera, Roger Ducasse and Nadia Boulanger. When Ericourt was sixteen, he was graduated from the Conservatoire with the First Grand Prize. He won the Diemer Award, one of the highest distinctions that can come to a pianist of any nationality.
Ericourt made many enriching contacts with famous musicians while he was still very young, contacts such as many musicians wait years to acquire. At thirteen he played with Debussy himself in a two-piano recital in Paris. Ravel, Stravinsky, Prokofieff, Roussel and Honegger are among the other composers whom Ericourt has known personally.
Shortly after graduating from the Conservatoire, the young artist commenced a tour of Europe that brought him renown and insistent demand for return engagements. Concert engagements have taken him many times to Paris, London, Berlin, Brussels, Monte Carlo, Vienna, Budapest, The Hague, and other important musical centers. He has played also under the batons of such famous conductors as Pierne, Wolff, Monteux, Reiner, Kolar, Barlow, Goossens, and Fritz Busch.
Ericourt has appeared with the Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Portland, and New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestras. In the spring of 1939 he was featured with Lily Pons at the opening of the French Pavilion of the New York World's Fair. The pianist now makes his home in the United States where he is in growing demand on the country's concert courses.
