MR. AND MRS. GALE
Are accomplished musicians and splended entertainers. Their entertainment is the result of over twenty years of constant and painstaking effort. Mr. and Mrs. Gale have, since childhood, been gifted musicians, and during the past twenty years they have devoted much time and spent thousands of dollars in the study of the music and musical instruments of various races, especially the American Indian, the Japanese, and the Chinese. Mr. Gale has worked among the Indians and has acquired a proficiency in the singing of their songs and the playing of their instruments that has won their admiration. His many transcriptions of the songs of the American Indian, and especially of Puget Sound and Pacific Coast tribes, have gained for him national recognition as a leading authority on the music of the American aborigine. Their collection of musical instruments is one of the largest and finest in the world.
Mr. Gale is a vocalist, a pianist and violinist, capable of handling the best music, a writer of music, a lecturer, and a good story teller. He was for several years at the head of the musical department of the University of Washington. Mrs. Gale has a rich, deep contralto voice and is a good pianist. Their voices blend beautifully. an presenting their unique entertainment, set the stage with special scenery and literally cover it with curios and musical instruments. Mr. Gale gives a brief description and history of most of the curious instruments used and tells interesting stories and legends, leading up to the musical numbers, whether instrumental or vocal, which are rendered—all of them unique, melodious and new. The written music for these numbers can not be secured in a music store. Mr. Gale was compelled to write his own music by listening to the songs of the Red Men and recording them. Some selections were recorded by means of the phonograph.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Gale appear as Indians—in beautiful costumes—Mrs. Gale appearing in several different costumes, representing various tribes of Indians. No words or pictures can adequately set forth the charm of an entertainment that is unique and picturesque, with a combination of lecture, story, song, and instrumental music, unlike anything else on the platform. A more detailed description of this entertainment may be had by writing the Bureau.
