The HINDU CHEST MYSTERY
Explanation
THE Hindu chest illusion, or mystery, being the smallest trunk ever built for substitution, invented by Prof. Walden, while traveling abroad and built for him by a famous cabinet maker of Berlin Germany. The illusion was imported to this country at an enormous expense and is now being presented for the first time in Lyceum by Mr. Walden. A great many people have seen trunk mysteries and other acts of this nature before; this we beg to state is entirely different from any thing ever presented heretofore.
The Inside dimensions of the chest being twenty-eight and a half by fourteen by fifteen inches, made of solid mahogany two inches in thickness and weighing eighty pounds. This is the only chest of its kind in existence.
Figure
MR. WALDEN is first securely tied, then placed in a large canvas sack, same is then tied, sewed and sealed by committee from audience, next he is placed inside chest, lid is forced down and locked, a heavy leather cover is now placed around chest and laced up and tied—a number of lock trunk straps then placed around chest and fastened. The chest is then placed inside a cabinet no sooner are curtatns closed than Mr. Walden makes his appearance, Mr. Heverly immediately takes his place inside the chest, curtains are at once opened and the chest removed, opened,—first having committee examine straps and leather cover, knots and seals to see that they are as they left them—Mr. Heverly is found safe and sound inside of sack where only a moment ago Mr. Walden was placed—this substitution takes place in TWENTY SECONDS, the quickest time on record.
