Personnel
Wm. Beard has had extensive experience as a singer of leading roles in a number of Grand Operas and Oratorios, and as a giver of song recitals. He is the possessor of a big, robust baritone voice of extended range, beautiful quality and splendid delivery. He has had Chautauqua experience and knows how to reach his audience. His personality at once will attract and command attention. He never stoops to the commonplace or trashy in the selection of his songs, but gives the best in song literature in a way that is interesting and enjoyable to all.
Edward Walker first tenor, is known to American concert audiences for the quality of his voice, perfection of his art and the conscientiousness of his efforts. His reputation as a singer may be attributed to these three elements in his work. Although one of the younger of American tenors, he has sung his way from coast to coast and has a continuous record of successes. He has a voice of unusual range and quality suited to the most pretentious requirements of the most difficult music. He is equally at home in the operatic aria, the oratorio or the song recital program. He has the happy faculty of being a good maker of attractive programs and can hold the attention of his audience at all times. He is a thorough musician, a perfect gentleman and an artist whom to know is to like.
Dr. Carver Williams the basso of this quartet, is known in the musical circles of this country as a man who is the possessor of one of those rare basso profundo voices which he knows how to use in the most effective manner. He is known also for his singing of opera roles, oratorio and song recitals, and as a giver of lecture recitals of rare interest. Dr. Williams has sung all over the middle west with the best of musical organizations and always with big success; his voice is one of the kind which is not heard often and his art is so ripe that his success is instantaneous. Dr. Williams is basso in the highest paid quartet singing in Chicago churches, is an ex-president of Chicago's famous Mendelssohn Club and a number of prominent musical organizations.
Mr. Elias A. Bredin the second tenor and accompanist of the quartet is prominent in musical circles of Chicago and not only lays claim to popularity as a singer, but is also known and recognized as one of the leading organists and accompanists of that city; being an associate of the American Guild of Organists. A membership in this organization speaks for itself. He has had charge of a number of leading church choirs in and around Chicago and at present is master and director of one of Evanston's large and influential churches. He is a graduate of several leading schools of music in America, and has enjoyed the privilege of study with several European teachers in the matter of voice.
The Chicago Artists Quartet
THERE has been an insistent demand for the past few years from chautauqua and lyceum patrons for a really great singing quartet — a company of such musical ability and personnel as to command the respect and approbation of music lovers everywhere. A musical attraction was needed that would omit novelty and instrumental features, which are so well done by so many good male quartets now before the public, and rely on really exceptional vocal programs. We believe that in the Chicago Artists Quartet this aim has been realized. The personnel is a guarantee of the quality of their work. Each member is fully equipped with a repertoire of songs, arias and operatic or oratorio selections and could give either a single number or an entire recital to the satisfaction of the most critical audience. In their ensemble numbers, in addition to thorough rehearsing, they have the additional advantage of exceptional voices and musicianship. They will add interest to their numbers by a few short selections from the Opera Faust, in costume. As to the individual members of the company, a very few words will be sufficient for each. If further information is desired almost any musician of the middle west or any music journal of this country can give full information. We believe that chautauqua committees will welcome the advent of this great attraction on their programs.
