The Winifred Townsend Company
THE musical excellence and exceptional variety of the program of this organization is the product of the varied talents, thorough culture, wide experience and long concerted work of its members. Violin, soprano, baritone, tenor, flute and cello, in solos, instrumental and vocal, trios and quartette ensemble, inimitable child impersonations, a short comedy sketch, when desired and a grand finale of piano, voices and violin, make up a brilliant and popular program of greater variety and merit than is usually given by a larger company.
From long experience the management has found that even in an audience where the majority prefer a popular program there are often a few who like classical numbers, and among those who want a classical program there are those who care for popular numbers. Therefore, Miss Townsend has made a special study of arranging her programs, introducing classical and high class popular music in such a manner that the whole blends harmoniously and yet is constantly varied.
WINIFRED TOWNSEND is one of Chicago's most artistic violinistes. After having studied with America's best teachers, winning the College Gold Medal under Bernhard Listeman, Miss Townsend went abroad, where she became a pupil of Geloso, the great Spanish-French violinist, who praised her ability in highest terms. While in Paris Miss Townsend played with great success at the Academie Vitti, where solo artists appear weekly, and since her return to America has had most gratifying success in all her recitals and concert tours. Miss Townsend possesses a beautiful toned Storioni violin of 1771.
MISS FAERIE TOWNSEND, the talented soprano and reader, has a clear, high voice of great flexibility and sweetness. Its charming quality has often been commented upon by musicians. As a reader she is highly gifted, especially in child impersonations. Both her songs and readings are always received with great enthusiasm.
MR. RALPH WALKER always delights the audience with his rich, powerful voice and fine interpretation of the composers.
Miss Townsend and Mr. Walker have had the good fortune to receive their vocal training from the great master of voice culture, Mr. L. A. Phelps, of Chicago.
MR. ROBERT MacCREA has an exceedingly sweet tenor voice and is a good musician in every way, many of the duetts arranged for flute and violin, two violins, flute and cello, etc., which the company will use at different times, were arranged by Mr. MacCrea and have been greatly admired by those who have heard them.

Testimonials
Membre du jury du Conservatoire Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur
Mademoiselle Winifred Townsend est un excellente violiniste que je suis heureux de compter au membre de mes eleves.—
Albert Geloso, Paris, Nhre, 1903
Winifred Townsend played the Gypsy Melodies, by Sarasate. Miss Townsend is a great violiniste and won the admiration of all who heard her. She has rare skill in interpretation.—
Lyceumite and Talent (Chicago)
The duet between Miss Faerie Townsend and Mr. Ralph Walker was one of the most pleasing bits of a very clever little musical comedy. Both have unusual dramatic ability as well as fine voices.—
St. Louis Globe Democrat
I could have listened to Mr. Walker sing that last song all night. That's what I call real singing.
—Lou. J. Beauchamp, I. L. A. Chautauqua, 1908
Miss Faerie Townsend captivated her audience with her first number and showed her capability of giving an evening's entertainment unaided.
Russellville (Ark.) Daily
A most pleasing program was presented by the Townsends. They were repeatedly encored. The numbers were well balanced and delightful in every way.
Constantine (Mich.) Advertiser-Record
The Townsend Co. took charge of a crowd that filled the great tabernacle until there was not standing room, and the large audience was given a high, clean, up-to-date entertainment which everybody was delighted with. We must say that no company has ever pleased us better.—
Galena (Kan.) Evening Times
The Winifred Townsend Co. are more than their press notices claim for them—their range of talents including not only vocal and instrumental music, but dramatic ability of a high order. Mr. Walker is a pleasing baritone with a range of voice from basso cantante to tenor; as an entertainer he left nothing to be desired. Miss Townsend's violin music was the best we have heard here in a long time.
Miss Faerie Townsend, who has a beautiful soprano voice, was splendid, also in the child impersonations, and was repeatedly encored. The delightful program closed with a musical farce, in which comedy solo and ensemble work harmoniously blended.—
Hanover (Mich.) Journal
I heard the Townsend Company last June and beg to say for them that they are far above the average. They are artists of real ability. Their work is beautiful, chaste and elevating.

The Winifred Townsend Co. opened the Lyceum Course here on the 15th. I have heard our best platform and Chautauqua talent from the Lakes to the Gulf, and the Townsend Co. easily reached the best. Each member is an artist. If you are not in an enjoying mood they will make the mood and furnish the classic enjoyment for it.

The Winifred Townsend Co. gave a return date here last night to an appreciative audience. Many liked them even better than the first time.
