R Lockhart has a most enviable reputation as a concert artist in the United States and Canada. As a soloist of the Kilties Band, he did a lot to establish the reputation of that organization through his splendid vocal work and personality.
He has recently returned after an absence of some years abroad, where he has been singing with some well known Opera and Concert Companies, has just finished an extensive tour through Canada and the States from coast to coast for the third time. Mr. Lockhart had the honor of singing twice for His Late Majesty King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra at Balmoral Castle and Sandringham House; also the present King and Queen when Prince and Princess of Wales, Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, the King of Greece and Captain and Lady Scott, and many other eminent people.
A
MONG a few of the important engagements Mr. Lockhart has had, mention may be made of Mr. Henry W. Savage's Grand Opera Co., the Grau Savage Co. at the Metropolitan, New York, and the Hogarth Opera Co., London, England. He also sang with Madame Alicia Adelaide Needham's Concert Party (the well known Irish composer), in her Irish and Scottish Song Cycles, the Burns Mixed Quartette of London, England, and the Toronto Glee Club and many prominent Oratorio Societies in Great Britain.
Mr. Lockhart studied for some years with that well known Master, Wm. Shakespeare, and later with Mr. Edouard De Reszke, the eminent Opera Basso. Having been associated with many of the best artists in both Opera and Concert, he has had the advantage of receiving many valuable hints from them in the art of production and interpretation.
Mr. Lockhart features many of the old Scotch Classics, with a true Scotch swing, and is a splendid interpreter of the Harry Lauder songs. The entire company do at least a part of their work in costume.
INTERSTATE LYCEUM BUREAU, CHICAGO, ILL.
W
ITH Mr. Lockhart will appear three clever assistants who will assist in the programs with a great variety of pleasing numbers of real artistic merit. Songs, Vocal Trios and Duets, Violin Solos and Duets, Readings, Stories, etc., will be combined with the art of the entertainer to produce an unusually rich and novel entertainment.
Miss Mabel Forrester, Violinist and Pianist, and Miss Ilene Davidson, Saxophonist and Soprano, are exceptionally brilliant players, and have had a long experience in Concert work. They have received very high recommendations by those whose criticism is valued.
Miss Forrester is also an excellent pianist and possesses a lyric soprano voice. Added to her gift as an Artist is a pleasing personality and style which make her a genuine favorite.
Miss Davidson, the charming Saxophonist, plays with a charm and grace which is most pleasing. She has a sweet plaintive mezzo-soprano voice, a keen sense of humor and a very attractive personality.
Miss Shaffnit, Soprano Soloist and Pianist, has a bright, dramatic voice, full of richness and timbre well suited to Concert work. The company has made a great record, and always strikes 100.
WORDS OF COMMENDATION
It is with the greatest pleasure I recommend Mr. J. Coates Lockhart as a Vocalist and Teacher, possessing a clear, resonant and very sympathetic Tenor voice. He has always been most successful in Concert work in London. He studied with me for a considerable period. He is capable of giving most valuable instructions in the art of singing, and he has that natural faculty of imparting his knowledge to others.
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, Professor of Singing.
Fellow of Royal Academy of Music, London, England.
Mr. Lockhart's songs and everything he did greatly pleased the immense audience which greeted him.
The modest and impressive manner in which the soprano soloist rendered her solos will not be forgotten.
Miss Davidson with the violin can not be described in words. It was divine. I could have listened to her all night without being weary.
Sincerely,
WILBUR F. TROUT, Judge Juvenile Court, Cedar County, Nebraska.
The Lockhart Musical Company are pronounced the best entertainers who have visited Tilden, delighting each audience with their great variety of solos, duets and trios. Miss Forrester, with her violin, and Miss Shaffnit, Miss Davidson and Mr. Lockhart, in personality, voice and ability are great entertainers and all brilliant artists in their line, and captured their hearers from the start and held their attention to the last.Their audience always went away satisfied after each program.
Very respectfully,
HENRY ZINNECKER, Pastor First M. E. Church, Tilden, Neb.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
The Lockhart Concert Company gave three programs in our high school auditorium. Everyone was delighted with the type of entertainment. I consider the Lockhart Company one of the best that has ever been in this town in Lyceum and Chautauqua work. One of my teachers made a similar remark. They have a wav of putting the music over that is very appealing.
I heard one person say that he thought it was worth the price of the season ticket to hear Mr. Lockhart sing the Scotch songs.
Very truly yours,
RALPH ROBB, Supt. Phillips County High School.
Wausa, Neb., Gazette:
The entertainment program was efficiently taken care of by J. Coates Lockhart and his Scottish Lassies. This was Mr. Lockhart's third appearance at Wausa. Each time he comes he adds new friends and admirers to his already large list. He is an excellent singer and reader and while he mixes enough wit and humor with the really artistic in his program to make it entertaining as well as pleasing he never stoops to the silly,
slap-stick
style of comedy which the average entertainer thinks so necessary in order to be
funny.
Mr. Lockhart was ably assisted by his company, one of the young ladies being a most pleasing soprano and another a violinist of rather unusual ability
Colorado Springs, Colo.:
The Lockhart Company merited many encores with their singing, violin playing, readings and story-telling. One of the young ladies is a violinist of rare ability, and Mr. Lockhart made a great hit with his Harry Lauder songs.
