ACCLAIMED AS THE LEADING EXPONENT OF THE MODERN CHORAL SCHOOL IN AMERICA
The Augustana College Choir
They sing an eight-part arrangement of a Bach double fugue on the hair-line of accuracy, ... ending as they began on absolute pitch ... and, amid all this technical splendor, mingling their voices in combined tones of extraordinary loveliness.... One has not heard a college choir like this one.
The Critics Say....
EUGENE STINSON, Chicago Daily News
—In the beautifully voiced performance of the Bach selections I heard more of the spirit of reverence in the face of mystery than I have ever before happened to be aware of in such music.
JANET GUNN, Chicago Herald and Examiner
—The softer moments of massed song were marked by a tonal quality of rare beauty.
HERMAN DEVRIES, Chicago American
—One of those enterprising and artistic organizations to which the musicians of the United States are indebted.
CECIL M. SMITH, Chicago Tribune
—Mr. Veld's love for long lines of melody expressively phrased keeps him from essaying the effects of flashy, snappy theatricalism.
RUSSELL MCLAUGHLIN, Detroit News
—One of the finest choral instruments ever to visit Detroit.
WALTER W. FARMER, Worcester Evening Gazette
—A dynamic conductor ... superlative results.
MARTIN W. BUSH, Omaha Bee-News
—Especially fine were the antiphonal effects.
Philadelphia Inquirer
—A new and individual note in choral singing.

AUGUSTANA CHOIR
The Choir...
Several years ago the Jenny Lind Chorus, composed of women, and the Wennerberg Chorus, composed of men, were merged to form the Augustana College Choir. Each chorus presents its own distinctive portion of the concert, and this trilogy of style in choral programs has served to add a note of interest and variety which has been generally approved by music lovers and critics wherever the choir has appeared.
Since Augustana College has been a leader in translating the rich heritage of Swedish culture to American soil, it is fitting that the Augustana Choir should assist in inaugurating the New Sweden Tercentenary Celebrations through its extensive concert appearances.
The Conductor...
Few will question that the well-merited success of the Augustana Choir must be credited in large measure to the genius of its conductor, Mr. Henry Veld. His thorough training, sympathetic understanding of vocal technique, and skillful interpretation of choral masterpieces have made it possible for him to inspire his youthful singers to a perfection of performance which has led one of America's great music critics to say that we have discovered one of America's greatest choirs.
