MANAGEMENT OF THE
Mutual Lyceum Bureau
55 Auditorium Building
CHICAGO
Introductory
IN presenting this new and novel band to the public, it is the aim of the management to introduce a musical organization that will stand at the head of all concert bands in this country. Mr. Thaviu, the director and cornet soloist, who will have charge of this organization, is thoroughly equipped for the leadership. He has enjoyed unusual advantages of musical study under the best masters, including the study of the cornet with Prevo, of Paris.
His method is the result of exhaustive study and research, not only with his instrument, but such other branches as might have a bearing on his art. Having studied the art of proper breathing and phrasing with a master of vocal art, he is one of the most noted song players of the country.
He is the master of tone-quality and expression. His style is remarkably broad and beautifully vocal, betraying the thorough musician as well as the artistic player.
The arrangement of the instrumentation is original and unique. The music is especially arranged for the band by Mr. Thaviu, and he is thereby able to produce more artistic effects and tone-color than a band twice its size. Knowing the possibilities of each instrument and player, his arrangements bring out all the fine points that each instrument is capable of producing, imparting that style and breadth which are so highly essential to ensemble playing.

Press Notices
Pittsburg Leader.
Mr. Thaviu is a clever musician. His cornet solo revealed a broad musical style.
The Conservator.
Mr. Thaviu and his band are perfect musicians. Too much cannot be said in their praise.
Canton (Ohio) News Democrat.
Mr. Thaviu's cornet solo was as clever a bit of solo playing as a Canton audience has ever listened to. The selection was one that is peculiarly adapted to the cornet. Mr. Thaviu's rendition left nothing to be desired, and won for him a well deserved encore.
Canton (Ohio) Repository.
The first solo on the program was Cornet Fantasie, rendered by Mr. Thaviu. His tone is sweet; his execution clever, and his control over the highest and lowest notes of the cornet perfect. He was enthusiastically encored.

MISS CHARLOTTE E. HULLHORST, SOLOIST.
Miss Charlotte E. Hullhorst is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, and comes of a musical family. After studying voice with local teachers she came to Chicago, where she completed her studies with Mr. E. C. Towne, Miss Hullhorst possesses a dramatic contralto voice of great range and exceptional quality, and is destined to rank among America's leading contraltos.
Wheeling, W. Va.—Elijah.
Miss Charlotte E. Hullhorst earnestly carried her part of the oratorio, and her solo, O Rest in the Lord, was not eclipsed by any work of the evening.—
Wheeling Daily Intelligencer.
Elmira, N. Y.
Miss Charlotte E. Hullhorst possesses a voice of fine quality and of exceptional range. Her solo from La Favorita deserved special mention.—
Elmira Daily Advertiser.
From the Musical Leader and Concert-Goer.
Miss Hullhorst, who sang a Saint-Saens aria—Samson and Delilah—is the possessor of a rich contralto under excellent control.
Louisville, Ky.
Miss Charlotte E. Hullhorst displayed a contralto voice of wide range and pure tone. In all her solos she proved herself a singer of ability, taste and merit.—
Louisville Courier-Journal.
From the Cloquet (Minn.) Independent.
The vocal solo by Miss Hullhorst was rendered by that young lady in her usual brilliant manner. Miss Hullhorst has a magnificent contralto voice of rare power and clearness, and it appears to be no effort for her to render the most difficult selection. In our humble opinion—and that opinion is shared by all who have had the pleasure of hearing her sing—Miss Hullhorst's voice will win her fame.
