LUCILLE ADAMS
TIS said that Adelina Patti never had to learn to sing, her tone production being perfect from childhood. She only needed to learn how to use her marvelous gifts. In a similar way, fate has been kind to Lucille Adams. It has given her a remarkable dowry—the power to look like, act like, sound like, in fact to be like those characters she would bring before us. Thus they respond to her beck and call and scenes become real—the characters speak and act, we laugh with them, cry with them, frown with them, pout, strut, work or play as goes the story, but behind the film we faintly see dainty, winsome Lucille Adams. She will present:
Figure
Little Lord Fauntleroy
No person is too old or too young to be fascinated by the scenes and carried through the vicissitudes of Little Lord Fauntleroy, in Mrs. Burnett's story of that name. Miss Adams shows us the child-lord as Mrs. Burnett's genius made him, so gentle, so lovable—then the mother, so real, so tender—then the good-hearted but gruff Mr. Hobbs the groceryman, and all the rest. It is all so human, so beautiful! It's the same kind of pleasure and much the same in degree as one enjoys in hearing and seeing Maude Adams play Lady Babbie in Barrie's The Little Minister.
Peg O' My Heart
So it is in Peg O' My Heart, a story perfectly suited to Miss Adams's art. It is the play that has broken all attendance records. It wins by its cleverness, its purity, its humanity. To hear Miss Adams present it is a supreme joy.
Such a Little Queen
A comedy in four acts by Channing Pollock. This is a delightful story of a very young queen who runs away from her throne and finds herself quite alone in New York. It ends like a real fairy story, however, and they live happily ever after. Miss Adams offers Such a Little Queen for the coming season.
Figure
Studied with Leland Powers
Leland Powers, master of interpretative art, the first to enact a book or play complete, the originator of that form of entertainment wherein one person speaks the words of all the characters and accompanies these spoken lines with action suited to the word, for three years gave to Miss Adams personal instruction in preparing for her lyceum career. Since this she has been giving recitals en tour, and everywhere audiences yield to the charm of her art and personality.
MRS. CAROL HOYT POWERS, of the Leland Powers School, says: When I think of the reading of Miss Adams, I think of sunshine and flowers and the beauty and joy of living.
Miss Adams may be addressed in care of The Three Arts Club, 340 West 85th Street, New York City
DR. GUNSAULUS, Pastor of Central Church, Chicago, and President of Armour Institute, says: Miss Lucille Adams's work is beautifully conceived and splendidly executed. She is one of the first women on the platform to interpret really fine representations of human feelings and thought in the best literature. She is a woman of high character and is realizing excellent ideals.
