This worthy novelty has won the admiration of every audience before which the Company has appeared. The drills and group pictures, with colored calcium-light effects and gorgeous apparel, add much to the magnificence of the program. There is nothing like it or comparable to it. Frank O. Hansony Mgr. Lecture Coarse, Lexington, III. "It is pronounced the best concert given here in years. Your program is high-class throughout. The fantasie is unique and extremely different from anything we have seen on the concert stage."
Daily Journal, Gallipolis, 0. The Nellie Peck Saunders Company
MARTHA REYNOLDS COLBY, Violiniste
MARTHA REYNOLDS COLBY plays the violin like one of the masters. She wields the bow with the strength and grace of Ole Bull himself, and yet wins the heartiest sympathy and en¬thusiasm of her audience by her own beauty and grace as a lady. She is herself an enthusiast, and enters so heartily into the expression of her instrument that she seems to speak through it, and stirs the emotions of her hearers as if they were listening to the very story of the song which she plays. After years of study under the best Amer¬ican masters, Martha Reynolds Colby enjoyed the advantage of train¬ing under leading German masters, having spent several years abroad under Herr G. Schreck and Herr Arno Hiel at Leipsic. She has been a member of the Nellie Peck Saunders Company three seasons.
The Times, Reading, Pa. "Martha Reynolds Colby rendered in most brilliant style several violin solos."
True American, Trenton, N. Y. " Martha Reynolds Colby's playing of the violin was of exceptional merit, and she was obliged to respond to sev¬eral encores."
The Enterprise, Evansville, Wis. "Asa lady violiniste Martha Reynolds Colby can not be excelled, always holding the audience spell-bound with her beautiful and difficult execution."
The Daily Sun, Kites, Mich. " Martha Reynolds Colby possesses re¬markable talent, and the treat she afforded the large audience at the Opera-house last evening was fully appreciated. At the conclusion of the first number she met with a perfect storm of applause, and during all her ably-executed and beautiful renditions rapt interest and attention held the entire audience spellbound. Forced to respond to repeated encores, she did so with a charming grace of manner that quite captivated her audience as much as her playing."
The Daily Sun, Dixon, III. " The violin numbers rendered were the best that have been heard in this city for some time. Martha Reynolds Colby is certainly an artiste of considerable merit. She plays with the grace that delights her audience. She responded to an encore, and her second selec¬tion was even more captivating than the first."
The Record, Ludington, Mich. " Martha Reynolds Colby, the violiniste, in Vieuxtemps's fantasia Appasionata pleased and delighted her hearers, and at the close received round after round of applause to which she re¬sponded gracefully, holding her auditors spellbound with the melody evoked from the king of musical instruments."
The Blade, Elkhorn, Wis. " Martha Reynolds Colby, the violiniste, is a performer of admirable stage presence and a very interesting personality, so that it was as great a pleasure to follow her motions of lithe, graceful strength as to listen to the sympathetic tones and intelligent interpretation."
GRACE GARRETSON HOFFMAN, Pianiste
THE accomplished pianiste of the Company has during her three years' connection with the Nellie Peck Saunders Com¬pany acquired a reputation for marvelous powers of interpretation of the great masters of the classic and romantic schools. Her con¬ception of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann is of the highest order, showing the finest culture as well as native ability.
Jackson Patriot, Jackson, Mich. "At a recital last evening, Miss Grace Garretson Hoffman furnished some of the most excellent por¬tions of the program. She is a skillful player, her technique irre¬proachable, and she possesses a pleasing touch."
Detroit Journal. "Miss Grace Garretson Hoffman's piano recital, given last evening, was a pronounced success. She possesses tempera¬ment, technical precision, self-poise, and an unfailing memory to a degree altogether uncommon. Miss Hoffman's program was one of large demands, wide in its range and exacting in its difficulty. Her playing was intelligent throughout and at times magnetic."
Sandusky Register, Sandusky, O. "Miss Grace Garretson Hoffman demonstrated her clever ability and wonderful technique to the extreme delight of all who heard her. Her playing, varied as her style, is full of soul and sympathy. Miss Hoffman is an artiste innate, and won her success by meritorious work."
The Nellie Peck Saunders Company
MR. FREDERIC D. LYON, Baritone
T S known and recognized as a singer of remarkable gifts. He possesses all the necessary qualifications which go to make a great singer, namely, a rich, vibrant voice, a perfectly sensitive musical ear, a quick musical perception, an essentially dramatic instinct, and an absolute devotion to his chosen art. His career as a concert singer has been remarkable. He has been the recip¬ient of great applause on all occasions, and his ability added much to the success of the Nellie Peck Saunders Company last season.
Detroit Journal. "Mr. Frederic Lyon has a rich, powerful bari¬tone voice of fine quality and sings with unusually artistic effect. He appeared to great advantage in the presentation of Dudley Buck's 'Triumph of David."'
Philadelphia North American. " Mr. Frederic Lyon won a warm place in the hearts of the audience in his opening song number. His rich, mellow baritone is remarkable indeed. Mr. Lyon graciously responded to the encore insisted upon, keeping his hearers enthusiastic to the end."
5"/. Louis Globe-Democrat. " Mr. Frederic D. Lyon manifested an artistic nature in all his singing, which speaks volumes for his capacity as a vocalist. There is something intensely earnest and refined in the musical fiber of his make-up. His voice has strength and depth, and his enunciation is uniformly good."
Kalamazoo {Mich.) Telegraph. " Mr. Frederic D. Lyon won en¬thusiastic applause with his beautiful voice and splendid songs. He has a strong, clear baritone voice, and his stage presence adds greatly to the charm of his singing."
Joliet [III.) Republican. " Mr. Frederic D. Lyon sings with excel¬lent j udgment, and his superior voice, so admirably adapted to concert work, was one of the best we have ever heard."
| THE HARMONIE LADIES QUARTETTE |
THE HARMONIE LADIES QUARTETTE makes its claim for public hearing not only upon the basis of its musicianship, but also because of the possession- of those aesthetic qualities of personality and character which always should be the accompaniments of the divine art of music.
When we began the formation of this Ladies Quartette two years ago, our purpose was to excel any organization of the kind that had essayed the lyceum concert stage, and we assigned this labor to a person eminently fitted to the judgment of voice and temperament. More than threescore voices of desirable applicants were examined and tested before four voices were found which com¬bined the essentials necessary to a good female quartette. =
The excellent results of this method of creating a quartette have surprised the public, for their work ranks as the very highest attainment in that kind of music. The organization is a permanent one, and our patrons will find it backed by expressions of the highest favor from the best lecture and entertainment course managers.
THE NELLIE PECK SAUNDERS COMPANY
NORA BAILEY WHETMORE, the first soprano, possesses a dra¬matic soprano voice of great finish and richness, and a power which lends an unusual strength to the Quartette. She was a pupil of J. E. Meeham, of New York, for several years, and also of the American School of Opera, in New York, where she studied for opera, but finally chose the concert stage instead.
NELLIE LOUISE VAUGHN possesses a contralto voice of marvel¬ous depth and richness. Every audience pronounces this voice as phenomenal, and critics are unanimous in their praise. Depth, flexibility, richness, and soul characterize her voice, which gives a magnificent basis to the Quartette and makes it the greatest Ladies Quartette that has been offered the lyceum.
The Harmonie Vocal Quartette
MISS FLORENCE MARLOWE has a clear, sweet, soprano voice, sympathetic in quality, which reaches the high notes with perfect ease. She was a pupil of Madam Inez Pannater, of the Michigan Conservatory of Music, and she has met with very flattering suc¬cess upon the platform. She is a petite little miss and always wins her audience.
MAUD LENORA FARRELL is a very talented young lady of a very musical family. She has a cultured and beautiful contralto voice, and she sings with feeling and taste. She is also an accom¬plished pianist. Her voice has attracted more than usual attention, and she was especially selected for the precision and richness of quality which she contributes to the Quartette work.

At the conclusion of the first number she met with a perfect storm of applause, and during all her ably-executed and beautiful renditions rapt interest and attention held the entire audience spellbound. Forced to respond to repeated encores, she did so with a charming grace of manner that quite captivated her audience as much as her playing." The Daily Sun, Dixon, III. " The violin numbers rendered were the best that have been heard in this city for some time. Martha Reynolds Colby is certainly an artiste of considerable merit. She plays with the grace that delights her audience. She responded to an encore, and her second selec¬tion was even more captivating than the first." The Record, Ludington, Mich. THE HARMONIE LADIES QUARTETTE THE HARMONIE LADIES QUARTETTE makes its claim for public hearing not only upon the basis of its musicianship, but also because of the possession- of those aesthetic qualities of personality and character which always should be the accompaniments of the divine art of music. = The excellent results of this method of creating a quartette have surprised the public, for their work ranks as the very highest attainment in that kind of music. The organization is a permanent one, and our patrons will find it backed by expressions of the highest favor from the best lecture and entertainment course managers. THE NELLIE PECK SAUNDERS COMPANY NORA BAILEY WHETMORE, the first soprano, possesses a dra¬matic soprano voice of great finish and richness, and a power which lends an unusual strength to the Quartette. The Harmonie Vocal Quartette MISS FLORENCE MARLOWE has a clear, sweet, soprano voice, sympathetic in quality, which reaches the high notes with perfect ease. THE.
