BEN HUR WINS THE RACE
BEING a keen student of human nature, his interpretation of the quarrel scene between Ben Hur and Messala, as well as Ben Hur's plea for liberty and tbe ever famous chariot race, shows great emotional skill.
The story is replete in beautiful descrip¬tions, vivid in dramatic situations, besides offering many character studies of the strongest types.
Large audiences of young and old have loudly praised this wholesome, artistic lecture.
Nearly one hundred beautiful stereopti-con pictures fully illustrate the story and to¬gether with clever word pictures provide an entertainment of a soul-stirring nature.
The Testimony of Press and Management
Nearly 700 people were delighted last evening with the lecture on Ben Hur, de¬livered by Charles R. Wakeling, an artist in the telling of good tales. He told the whole exciting story with an appreciation for its dramatic qualities that held the audience like a charm. The lecturer was roundly applauded many times during the evening.—Springfield (Mass.) Republi¬can. \
A fine bit of dramatic work by a clever lecturer.—Brockton (Mass.) Enterprise.
His slides are well selected, the audi¬ence very appreciative.—E. V. Ambler, Gen. Sec. Y. M. C. A., Dalton, Mass.
I cannot speak too highly in recom¬mending you. You have great tact in presenting this lecture, holding the atten¬tion from the beginning.—R. W. Hutch-ins, Boys' Sec, Y. M. C. A., Gloucester, Mass.
Your lecture to 41 3 boys in our city a short time ago was certainly one of the most successful ways of giving them a desire to know more about the Christ who healed the mother and sister of the hero of the story. That your dramatic presen-tation of the story appealed to the boys is evidenced by what one of them told his father: "Most always I like the pictures better than the talks in our Y. M. C. A. meetings, but this time Mr. Wakeling made the story more interesting than the pictures. It was great.** There is no doubt at all about the value of your lec¬ture and I was glad to be able to recom¬mend it to several of the men at the Boys* Secretaries* meeting in Boston yesterdav. —D. J. Mulvihill, Boys* Sec, Y. M. C. A., Brockton, Mass.
I heard nothing but words of praise.— J. H. Taylor, Y. M. C. A., Maiden, Mass.
Stirs and stimulates in a moral way such as few lectures can. There is little room for improvement.— L. W. DeGast, Boys* Sec, Y. M. C. A., Washington, D. C.
No talk which we have had at our meetings here was more interesting than the one you gave us.—F. A. Stanley, Y. M. C. A., Hartford, Conn.
Mr. Chas. R. Wakeling has been con¬nected with our bureau as a lecturer for the past year and has received the highest praise of both press and public. As he has a very pleasing manner while on the platform and his style is very dramatic, we do not hesitate in recommending Mr. Wakeling*s lecture.— Mgr. Northern Ly¬ceum Bureau, Springfield, Mass.
My people enjoyed your lecture very much. Can you come again?—Henry Ives, Pastor Congregational Church, Westhampton, Mass.
You had them off their seats.—L. H. Clee, Boys* Sec, Providence, Mass.
On behalf of our association and for myself, I wish to thank you for the splen¬did lecture you gave us yesterday, and to tell you that I have heard a great many kind comments made of your rendition of the subject. It is hard for us to find speakers and subjects which are accepta¬ble to audiences of men, and so we feel that it is an unusual compliment to you that all our men were satisfied with your work yesterday. Hope we may have the pleasure of hearing you ae:ain.—Albert B. Smith. Gen. Secretary Y. M. C. A., Beverly, Mass.
The evening was a success far beyond my expectations.—L. L. Doggett, LL.D., Pres. Y. M. C. A. College, Springfield, Mass.
