J. CALVIN MEAD
THE APOSTLE OF THE NORMAL LIFE"
Waynesburg, Greene Co., Pa.
J. CALVIN MEAD, D. D.
THE "APOSTLE OF THE NORMAL LIFE" is what he is generally called by those who know him best and have heard him most frequently, and for the same reason that Dr. Willetts became known as the "Apostle of Sunshine." It is the special idea for which he stands. Dr.* Mead is a splendid specimen of normal living and has studied the subject scientifically and practically. He appeals with convincing reasoning and compelling eloquence, for the sanity of the "Normal Life" as against the fallacy of the "Simple Life" and the folly of the "Strenuous Life," analyzing modern civilization with the breadth of a scholar, the insight of a statesman and the keenness of a humorist.
In "WEDDING BELLS AND GROCERY BILLS" he applies the principles of the normal life to individual and domestic living. In "AMERICAN TYPES AND YANKEE TRAITS" he applies these principles to social and national life
-HIS LECTURES GIVE A COMMUNITY THE TRUE VIEW-POINT OF LIFE"
Dr. Mead has other lectures and is in constant demand for addresses adapted to INSTITUTES, CHAUTAUQUAS and SPECIAL OCCASIONS.
J. CALVIN MEAD, D. D.f was born in central New York, amid the picturesque scenery of Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake. He has the strength of the rocks in his frame and blood, the music of the waters in his voice, the broad vision of the mountains in his mind, and the romance of the glen in his personality. Liberal education together with extensive travel, identification with great reform interests, and experience in the pastorate—from the town to the larg'e city church—have made him wise in many lines. Above all, he is a sincere and fearless man with a message vital to our times. He thinks strongly and clearly and has the "popular lecture" temperament; critics have said "he could have made a successful actor."
Nature endowed him especially for the lyceum, where his oratorical genius, keen sense ofjhumor, wide experiences and strong' personality have natural scope, as larg'e and enthusiastic audiences in many sections of America have testified.

i have heard Dr. J. Calvin Mead, sometimes known as "The apostle of the normal life " lecture several times before a popular audience. I can truthfully say of him: he has something to say. He says jt in a first-class style and manner. When he is through he stops. I know of no better qualities in any lecturer.

Rev. Olin B. Coit, D. D. Potsdam, N. Y.
J. Calvin Mead, D. D., is worthy to be classed with the very best lecturers on our plat¬form today. He lectured before a large audience, in our course, and I am very sure there will be no trouble in securing an audience for him again. Hf is analytic and concise in style, and eloquent in deliv¬ery, while a vein of humor kriv<'s a sparkle to all he says.
Senator D. S. Walton (Pennsylvania)
Dr. J. Calvin Mead is one of the most intensely interesting and delightful entertainers found on the forensic platform today. He has had a world¬wide experience in the pulpit, in travel, and on the platform, which with his natural oratorical gifts, dig¬nified and graceful manner, enable him to select and present a subject abreast of modern thought clearly, forcefully, charmingly. To see him is to want to hear him; to hear him is to want to know him intimately, which has been my pleasure and delight.
Y. M. C. A., Philadelphia, Pa.
Dr. J. Calvin Mead lectured for our Y. M. C. A. recently, and made such a profound impression that he was requested to repeat it at a point near by. The lecture is replete with happy illustrations, delicate humor and sug¬gestions that appeal to old and young. No one can hear it without being entertained. No one can listen to it without being deeply interested and inspired to rise to higher levels.

The lecture delivered by Dr. J. Calvin Mead at Bonnicastle, N. Y., was, in my judgment, as well calculated to amuse and instruct a mixed audience as any address I ever listened to. It was witty and wise, eloquent and forcible.
Hon. S. M. Coon
Chairman of Lecture Committee Oswego, N. Y.
J. Calvin Mead delivered a lecture in the finest course of lectures delivered in Oswego in many years. His lecture was ranked with the best in the course; the audience was en¬thusiastic over it. The subject was popular, the thought of high order, well wrought out, and its delivery a fine example of the "American Trait'' of popular oratory.

Dr. J. Calvin Mead is rightly called "the apostle of the nor¬mal life." He has lectured here three times before large and appreciative audiences. As a platform speaker he is a man of exceptionally fine presence, very magnetic, inter¬esting and entertaining. His wide experience of the world, gained by travel and by contact with men, give him a fund of delightful anec¬dote and illustration that he knows how to use. There is not a dull minute in one of his lectures. Our people were delighted with him.
Charles R. Skinner, State Superintendent

I have had the pleasure of listening to Dr. J. Calvin Mead in his addresses concerning the aims and pur¬poses of organizations of mothers. He is an attractive speaker, with strong personality, abounding in senti¬ment and humor, which he combines in making a very popular presentation of his subject. His earnestness and force lead me to believe that he can do splendid service as a speaker in this field.
