MLLE. SAGE AND HER COMPANY
Announcement
IN presenting Mile. Sage and her Company to Chautauqua and Lyceum Com¬mittees, the Management believes that it is conferring a favor to genuine music lovers wherever the Company may be heard. Mile. Sage's standing as a Musician is well enough known to be an absolute guarantee of the musical excellence of the programs she offers. Wherever it may be desired, she is prepared to give full musical recitals and lectures in addition to the work of the company. The following article from one of the world-famous news¬papers of Paris, Le Figaro, is a sufficient comment on her position in the mus¬ical world at home and abroad:
"Mile. Sage, the pianifte-ledturer, yesterday afternoon, gave discourse on "National Music." It was interesting and unique, and together with artistic piano illustrations, was a pleasure to musicians, while to those who neither sing nor play a great benefit. Mile. Sage, who is said to be a descendent of our famous author Le Sage, has certainly inherited a fair amount of his literary genius, and together with her charming face, splendid voice and magnetism, not to speak of her musical gifts, is a most unusual personality."
As to the popular quality of the programs rendered, Mile. Sage has taken the most melodious selections from the Spanish and Hungarian Masters of Music and woven them into programs rich in rythm and melting in melody. The original tongues have been translated into English and the quality of the music has been further enhanced and popularized by the use of the beautiful native costumes of these countries. Nothing more popular, more original or of more musical value has been added to the platform in many years.
THE MANAGEMENT.
The Beautiful Music of Hungary
In Costumed Programs
The American People have long known and admired the warmth and fascinating rythm of Hungarian Music as interpreted by such well-known leaders and composers as Strauss and others. But the work of Mile. Sage, who is thoroughly at home in the Hungarian tongue as well as in its music, will be a further revelation of the depths and sweetness of their melody. All the songs will be rendered in English from original translations by Mile. Sage.
COMMENT
Streator, Ills.,—Mile. Florence Sage played at Streator Chautauqua with such result that I felt justi¬fied in engaging her to remain over and play at our Sunday closing concert. She plays with power and authority, with a largeness of tone that speaks to the confines of a large auditorium, and with a clearness of phrasing that makes the piano intelligible to the Chautauqua audience- not by any means composed of musical literati. We counted her a popular suc¬cess

Musical Courier, [New York.] The much played Paganini Concerto received intelligent treat¬ment at the hands of Julius Brander. His tone is full and round, his technique fully adequate to the demands of the work.
Quincy, [111.] Daily Whig.—Mile. Sage was something out of the ordinary, and a treat, not only to classic music lovers, but also to those with whom the light catchy music of the comic opera is most popular.
MR. CARVER is highly praised by Signor Arturo Marescalchi, the great Baritone, late of Adelina Patti and Abbey L. Grau Grand Opera Companies, for his "very good voice and excellent method, his talent as a musician and conscientious rendition of everything he sings/'
Vincennes (Ind.) Capital. -Comparisons may be odious, but when some persons present who had heard Liszt, the greatest of pianists of both continents, play that one of his greatest rhapsodies, the fifteenth [Rakoczy March] which Miss Sage rendered with such a finish and artistic abandon, there was the general comment that none had rendered it better.
Weekly Sun, Worthington, Ind. Julius Brander evoked the most enthusiastic applause of the evening. He is a violinist of rare skill.
Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Her fingers fly over the keys in a manner that astonishes, while it rivets the attention of the listener. She is truly a wonderful performer.
Musical Leader & Concert-goer, Chica¬go.—The brilliant, difficult, showy Polonaise Laib-Wilheimj was played by Julius Brander and received unusually good treatment from the young violinist.
Paris (France) Le Francais—One of the
chief characteristics of Mile. Sage is her versatility. In the classic style of Bach, as well as in the technical difficulties of the modern composers, she is equally at home. The purest pathos, the melody which appeals to all hearts, are expressed by her with matchless fidelity.
St. Paul Daily Globe—Mile. Sage is a power¬ful pianiste, with a brilliante technique.
Hungarian Hirmondo This week we have had the pleasure of hearing the eminent pianiste, Mile. Florence Sage, who was first known to us through our countryman, the renowned Edouard Remenyi. Returning several years ago from a tri¬umphant tour of the United States, Remenyi was most enthusiastic in praise of this young pianiste, Mile. Sage, who accompanied him as soloist. This gifted young artist, full of enthusiasm for the Hungarian music, realizing the impossibility of comprehending it thoroughly without a knowledge of the Hungarian language and folk-songs, set about studing it assidu¬ously. Having mastered the difficult Oriental lan-guage and literature, she is now enabled to enter so completely into the spirit of our national music as to make it her own.
Madeira(Col.)Times.—Julius Brander showed himself a master of his instrument. He rendered some difficult music in an artistic manner. His technique was perfect. He put plenty of feeling into his playing and was warmly applauded.
N. Y. Statz Zeitung—Mile. Florence Sage astonishes at every performance by her musical learn" ing and phenominal power. Liszt's transcription of "1 hou Art Peace/' and the "Polonaise Melancoli-que," were superbly played; but the heartiest enjoy¬ment was in listening to the dainty Scherzo and the Impromptu. Mile. Sage's playing was characterized by a delicacy of touch and an artistic appreciation of Liszt's happy mood that was simply delightful. We heard always the king of song writers at his best, as the pianiste's brain and fingers sent his divine melody to the listening ears.
Anaconda [Mont.] Standard. -The play¬ing of Julius Brander on the violin was probably the best that has been heard in Anaconda. Unquestion¬ably Mr. Brander is an artist.
Toronto Mail Mile. Florence Sage, the pianiste, is a most accomplished and charming musi¬cian and her playing was a delight to all.

Her recitals of the folk-music of the various countries, especially

aroused much enthusiasm among
the connoisseurs of Europe and
America.
Mlle. Sage has had unusual op¬portunities for original research in the folk-lore and native music of many lands by her long residence abroad and the mastery of seven foreign languages. In Mile. Sage's concert tour she will be assisted by eminent artists.
MR. JULIUS BRANDER, the well-known violinist, who has been engaged to assist in these concerts, has received most favorable comment everywhere.
MISS PHYLLIS PATERSON, the brilliant young soprano, has made a fine record in Concert and Club work. Her voice is a pure lyric soprano of unusual sweetness and flexibility; her colorature work being exceptional. She has won high praise with her sing¬ing of ballads, which she renders with rare sympathy and telling facial expression, and with her attractive personality she wins her audience at once.
MR. ST. CLAIR CARVER,
the prominent young baritone whose debut
called forth the most enthusiastic comment
from the critics possesses a voice of great
