Walter George’s Light Opera Singers
A NOTED ORGANIZATION, ARE MAKING THEIR FIRST APPEAR¬ANCE IN AMERICA, COMING DIRECT FROM LONDON
Mr. Walter George, so well known in England as a society humorist, is the head of the party bearing his name. His connection with the operatic field for so many years brought about the idea of giving " Selections " from the well-known light operas and musical comedies. It proved a great success — hence the formation of the Light Opera Singers.
The program is varied with Ballads, Songs, Humorous Recitations, Musical Sketches (at the piano), Sextets, and concludes with an Operetta; the whole forming in the opinion of the English Press one of the most attractive, up-to-date, and charming entertainments of its kind. The mem-bers of this talented company are each and every one artists of the highest merit, and together form a combination which for picturesque effect, originality of treatment, vivacity, and piquant humor has seldom been equaled and never excelled. However high anticipations may be raised, this party never fails to realize them. We feel satisfied that our patrons will endorse the favorable opinion of this company held abroad.
THE PARTY
Miss Margaret Long is the possessor of a pure
o Soprano voice, and has
fulfilled with great success engagements both in opera and concerts.
Miss Ethel Wilford is a Mezzo-Contralto, having a splendid range and quality
She also recites both pathetic and humorous pieces, and is a very strong addition to this excellent party.
Miss Oeorcrie Martin Comedienne, for a long time principal Comedienne

AND
Mr. Walter George Society Entertainer and Humorist, Gold Medalist L.A.M., and who has been honored with commands to appear before royalty on several occasions. One of the cleverest artists now before the public.
Mr. Walter George's Light Opera Singers
present a charming novelty in their entertainment, which consists of gems from the comic operas and operettas. The party appear in a very taking costume : the gentlemen in red even¬ing dress coats, white vests, black satin knee breeches, stockings, and shoes, and the ladies in red satin dresses trimmed with black and gold. Their repertoire is very extensive, and includes a number of operettas such as: " Uncle Samuel," by Arthur Law and George Grossmith ; " He Stoops to Win," by C. Bridgeman and W. Bendell; " After All," by Duprez and A. Cellier ; " The Waterman," by Dibdin; " The King's Command," by Knight Summers and Louis Honig.
Their performance is mostly of a humorous nature, perfectly refined and free from anything objectionable; all of the songs are given with the utmost vivacity, and the program is full of w catchy " selections. Walter George is a host in himself, being one of the most versatile and delightful entertainers before the public. He has a well-trained baritone voice of great range, and in his humorous songs, dances, and musical sketches is simply inimitable.

AND GENERAL ADVERTISER
September IJ, IQ02 Walter George's Light Opera Singers are paying a return visit to the Victoria Pa¬vilion, Ilfracombe, this week, and are again drawing crowded houses. Their programs are as bright and sparkling as ever, and the different numbers are characterised by a strong amount of zest. They have proved one of the most successful, if not the most successful company that has appeared at the Victoria Pavilion this season.
Southampton Times £&> Hampshire Express June 1, iqo2 Each evening during the week Walter George's Light Opera Singers have been delighting large audiences with their humourous and musical entertainments. Mr. Walter George is to be complimented on having such an excellent company under his direction, and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming him and his talented confreres back at an early date.
"Western Morning News
Mr. Walter George's Light Opera Singers, who are performing on Plymouth Pier this week, provide an extremely interesting entertainment. Last evening the pavilion was crowded, and every piece on the long program was encored. The singers gave in excellent style selections from "The Gondoliers," " The Casino Girl," " Floro-dora," " The Gaiety Girl," and " The Belle of New York." Mr. Arthur Court and Mr. Walter George sang " The Twins " ("The French Maid"), at the afternoon performance, and it proved one of the greatest successes of the day. " A Little Bit of String" ("The Runaway Girl"), by Miss Margaret Long, and the song " Fairyland " are deserving of special mention. Mr. Walter George sings a very humourous song,"Ping-pong," and throws small ping-pong balls to persons sitting in different parts of the pavilion.
The Independent
September, IQ02 By the bye, what a very bright and charm¬ing entertainment has been given this week by Walter George's Company. The ladies in their red frocks and the gentlemen in their red coats make up a very picturesque sextet and sing delightfully their reper¬toire, embracing both old and new favour¬ites. Mr. Walter George solves the some¬what difficult problem of " How to be fun¬ny without being vulgar."
Southern Daily Echo May 28, 1Q02 Mr. Walter George, the well-known society humourist, and his party of singers are en¬gaged this week, and their performances have met with unqualified success. It is just the type of entertainment to please, and for two hours each evening the audience that packed every part of the building partook of rich musical fare. The members of the company sang splendidly. There was not a dull item. The combi¬nation is an exceedingly happy one.
