A chance Ito sei some of the WAACs in their ^rst downtown parade and lively bidding in war stamps and ?bonds at the county fair Saturday started Women at War week on its vigorous way in Des Moines.
Eighteen hundred well trained, alert women, every bob even, every face serious, did themselves proud for their second training regiment. Products donated by Polk county farm women and retail merchants of Des Moines were as popular as a second cup of coffee. Cocoanut cakes in cellophane and baking potatoes tied with patriotic ribbons scarcely needed the auctioneers' tender attentions.
One squawking rooster, amazed at his public attention, and at his great value, was handed over for a bond that matures at $50. Too Cheap. Ed Mason, 905 E. Twentieth court, bought the potential stew\ "He really went too cheap," Mason said. "For this cause, he should have brought more."
