Description	Iowa City Foreign Relations Council is continuing its long election-year tradition of inviting political candidates from every party to speak at our luncheons. This year we kick o election season by inviting Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks to join us for lunch on Tuesday, September 21. Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks is the Republican nominee in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, encompassing 15 counties in eastern Iowa. She is running against incumbant Representative David Loebsack (D), who is seeking his 3rd term this fall. Dr. Miller-Meeks retired with an honorable discharge as a Lt. Colonel after 24 years in the United States Army. After years of serving as an opthalmologist in Ottumwa, Iowa, Mariannette left her practice in 2008, but continues to serve others by volunteering her time and medical services at a free health clinic for families who have fallen on hard times.
