Description	Peter Takirambudde has been the Executive Director of the Africa Division of Human Rights Watch since early 1996 and is Human Rights Watch's chief strategist and spokesperson on Africa and is responsible for overseeing the activities of the organization in the region. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, he held the positions of Professor of Law at the University of Botswana and Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Lund, Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and International Law, Lund Sweden. In addition, he served as the Dean of Social Sciences at the University of Botswana. Prof Takirambudde received his bachelor's degree from Makerere University, Uganda in 1972 and a doctoral degree from Yale University in 1978. In his tenure as Africa Director, the Africa program has more than doubled in size while adding more economic and social rights and country coverage.
