MEAGHER.
Meagher Seahawk Coach?
A NOTRE DAME MAN will coach the 1944 Seahawks . . . but it won't be Frank Leahy . . . ac- ' cording to a well - authenticated rumor going the rounds in Navy Pre-Flight circles . . . Instead, the sue c e s s o r to Don Faurot will be veteran Jack Meagher ... if ; the report is to be believed.
At the Iowa Pre - Flight school it is said jack that Meagher is not even there . . . and that there is no confirmation of the report . . . Meagher coached at Rice from 1929 through 1933 . . . then moved to Auburn where he was quite successful for nine years ... or until he received a commission in the navy . . . He played at Notre Dame in 1916 . . . just before Slip Madigan, the Iowa U. duration coach, earned his letters with the Irish.
Meagher was succeeded at Rice by Lieut. Jimmie Kitts, now athletic director at the Ottumwa Naval Air Station . . . Ever since Leahy, the Notre Dame coach, was sworn into the navy, there have been reports that he would succeed Faurot as the Seahawk coach . . . Faurot is now athletic director of the navy trainees at Monmouth college, Monmouth,
