Mizzou Easy For Seahawk Cagers, 59-361
.....-A -(The Register's Iowa. News Service.) IOWA CITY, IA.- Recovering from a slow start, in which they | trailed during the opening four minutes, the Iowa Seahawks deftly juggled a crippled, Missouri quintet for a 59 to 36 victory here | Saturday night.
It was the Seahawks' fifteenth triumph of the year and added to a previous 74-38 lacing of Missouri.
Once the Pre-Flight settled to its task after 13 minutes had been played, during which time the lead traded hands shot for shot, it boomed to a 29-17 half margin on the shooting of Jim Klein, who bagged 11 first-half points, and Bob Baggott. The Cadets spaced a 19-13 edge to 27-15 a minute before the half closed.
Wayne Weaver personally took charge of the Seahawks' second-half drive when he dropped in 10 successive points in the first four minutes to give the Sailors a 39-19 gap and dim all Missouri hopes. With close guarding keeping the visiting Tigers away from the setup zone, Missouri was forced to shoot from far out and found considerable success, managing to cut the margin to 41-26. But the Seahawks' momentum kept its speed and, although the winners were once more forced to match Missouri shot for shot, they were able to hold a safe 54-33. lead with three minutes of the engagement left.
Klein's early shooting gave him evening's high honors with 17 points, while Weaver assisted with 12. Earl Stiegmeier, guard, led the windup of Missouri's unsuccessful two-day Iowa invasion with 11 points.
