Third Officer Shirley Berton Coming Thursday Instead of Officer Jeanne. Carter.
Third Officer Shirley Berton of the public relations office of the First WAAC training center at Ft. Des Moines will be in Boone Thursday noon, February 25, to address the Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting at Hotel Hoist. She is coming in place of Third Officer Jeanne Carter, originally scheduled, who has been transferred to other duties.
Third Officer Berton decided to join the WAAC the day Bataan fell because her oldest brother, MajJor Berton Barrett, was there and reported missing in action that day. While she was an Auxiliary, she asked Mrs. Ruth Mann, Red Cross Field Director at the Post, to secure news of Major Barrett.
