onvoy Of Waacs Pay Newton A Noon Visit

A large contingent of WAACs from the Fort Des Moines training center, inerkbers of a. routine motor transport training convoy, today noon paid Newton an unannounced visit.
But their trucks weren't parked for long on the west side of the square until hundreds of persons, going to and from work over the noon hour, gathered to view first hand this Women's Army Auxiliary Corps motor outfit,
The WAACs stopped in Newton for their noon mess, which was served in the ballroom of the Hotel Maytag. They brought their rations with them (because of rationing), however, except for coffee, which was served by the. hotel.
The convoy arrived at a few minutes before- 11 o :lock and "Dulled
into parking spaces reserved by the Newton police department along the west side of the square. The convoy left a few minutes before 1:00 o'clock.
