Warn Receives \ Sonfs Purple \ Heart Award
Fort Des Moines* la.—$V-Mil« dred DeMent Westbrook of Ra* leigh, N. C, who joined the Waaca after her son was killed at Pearl harbor, Saturday received the order of the purple heart which had ben awarded to him posthumously.
Col. Frank U. McCoskrie, commandant of the Waac training center, pinned the award of the jacket of the officer candidate during a review of the women soldiers.
Mrs. Westbrook's son, Robert, 20, was a radio operator on a bomber at Hickam field when the Japs attacked. The plane never got off the ground and he and othera in the crew were caught in a strai* ing attack.
