A new chapter in the military history of Fort Des Moines was written Saturday as the tramp of feminine feet rolled across the parade ground for nearly an hour.
It was the belated birthday parade of the WAACs, delayed a week by bad weather, and the first anniversary of the founding of the corps set an American precedent for women in uniform.
Seven thousand officers and auxiliaries swung down the broad s ::eep of the parade ground in nrclsummer sunshine, as the film s:i:l sound equipment of Warner Brothers company perpetuated the scene.
Largest.
It was the largest assemblage of service women in uniform in the history of the country.
In the marching column were the entire First and Third regiments of Fort Des Moines and the Second regiment, which headquarters downtown. I
