In response to many rumors which1 have been circulating through Toledo concerning the location of Italian prisoners of war at the Indian Sanatorium, it was announced here Tuesday that such a possibility is as yet in. mose remote stages. Tama county will need a large number of additional workers | to help on farms, canning factoriess. hemp fields and for detasselling corn,., but it is not definite that prisoners will be employed.--
The Tama County Farm Bureau has already received wo/d that they may j secure prisoners. However,, before 'they can be brought m the proposition must be brought before the public. At present the. city council of Toledo has given its approval as has the Farm Bureau and the War Board of Tama county. Meetings have been?, and will be held with the American: Legion last Tuesday,, lions club, Wednesday, and Chamber of Commerce,. Friday.--
After this clearance is obtained,. a< person or persons will have to take the.-contract of feeding and housing the supposed 500 prisoners. Reinbeck, according to reports, had considered prisoners for labor, but decided to employ Mexican civilians instead. Even if Tama county does secure a contingent of Italian prisoners, they will not ar-j rive until about August 1. Should the Indian Sanatorium be selected as a permanent prison camp, army personnel would control the situation* This proposition at present however is se -arate from the hopes to obtain r oners for farm labor.
