SPAR MUSICAL HERE TUESDAY
Instrumental music, songs and comedy will be a free offering to Des Moines residents at 8:30 p. m. Tuesday in the Shrine auditorium when the SPARlight Musical Cruise drops anchor here.
The 75-minute program, offered in the interest of SPAR recruiting, features the 32-piece St. Louis district coast guard band and coast guardsmen and SPARS in vocal and instrumental solos. Argonne post, American Legion, has assisted in arranging for the Des Moines visit of the show.
The SPARlight Musical Cruise will play a "preview" of its Shrine auditorium entertainment before patients at the U. S. Veterans hospital at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday. The show will be pre-
sented at the Boone high school auditorium at 8:30 p. m. Monday.
Following the show, SPAR recruiters will be available to consult eligible young women interested in joining the coast guard women's reserve.
Prospective recruits were reminded of a recent announcement by Capt. Dorothy Stratton, director of the SPARS, that the organization hopes to reach its quota by its second anniversary of founding, Nov. 23, and after that date, women will be enlisted only as replacements or to fill special needs of the service.
