Capt. Lawyer Takes Charge Of wti Camp
Men Contested and Doing Good Work; Chaplain Makes Visit
Captain Charles Lawyer became commanding officer of the Eldora branch war prison camp Friday, succeeding Lieut. Robert T. Cum-back, who was assigned to a camp at Montgomery, Minn. First Sergeant Harold Shaw continues as assistant to the new commanding-officer,
Things are going well at the camp, it is reported at headquarters. The men appear to be contented, and while the work they are doing is new to them, they are taking hold well. They recognize it to be a privilege to come to the branch camp and take employment and they make every effort to continue this status.
For entertainment they have been enjoying some games of soccer on the ball diamond. They have a post exchange from which they may buy drinks and tobacco, although the PX finds some of the supplies hard to secure.
The chaplain from the main camp at Algona has visited the camp and made arrangements with the Rev. C. Hesse, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church to look after the religious needs of the men, a large portion of whom are Lutherans. It is also understood ; that arrangements are being made I for Catholic services.
