Despite the presence of armed j force material from which to draw, I Central suffered a 41-0 setback in] its initial start two weeks ago against the Peru, Neb., Teachers. However, Coach Tunis Prins has gained additional service personnel since that contest and the Flying Dutchmen will present a team of more or less unknown quantity.
Although Drake is the decided favorite on the bettors' books, the squad was jolted when Joe Phelan, all-city tackle from Worcester, Mass., suffered a brain concussion in Wednesday's drills. His absence will be keenly felt as the line reserves are weak.
Drake will find itself about on a par with Central in the weight department but only two Bulldog veterans will be on hand. They are Clark Mollenhoff of Webster City, la., and Don Welcher, Sacramento, Cal., Negro, both ends. They are seniors, tip the Toledos at 200 pounds and stand 6 feet 3 inches.
Sharing the tackle duties for [Drake will be Emmanuel (Mugg-j sy) Migliorisi, Chicago, 111., and Bill Brady, 175-pound Des Moines | product. At the guards Drake willl be bolstered by two other Illinois aces, Ralph Gruben, all-state last year, and Art Vogel, all-city as a Chicago prep.
Maury Geist of Red Oak, 5 foot 7 inch, 163-pound "watch charm" center, will get his first collegiate test against the Flying Dutch-1 men's Billy Bentley, who stands a lofty 6 feet 3 inches, weighs 205 pounds and hails from Hutchinson, Kan.
The backfield will be completely j green, although possessed of speed, in Del Cockayne, Des Moines East High graduate, and Peck Henry, 175-pounder from Villisca, la., who will team at the halves. Another Des Moines lad, Bill Perkins, will be in the quarterback post, while Joe Hayer, Crane Tech of Chicago graduate, will utilize his 180 pounds from the fullback slot.
