In addition to 6,000 original cartoons, The University of Iowa Libraries holds Darling’s extensive personal and professional papers – which occupy some 60 linear feet. These papers are indexed and described in the Finding Aid for the Papers of Jay N. "Ding" Darling.
The J.N. "Ding" Darling Foundation, with further information on Darling's life and legacy, sells copies of David L. Lendt’s biography, Ding: The Life of Jay Norwood Darling, a CD version of 6800 cartoons represented by proof sheets at the Drake University Library (all of which are also incorporated in this online collection), as well as other publications.
The Jay N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, off the west coast of south Florida, is supported by a Friends Group, the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society. The Society owns copyright to Darling’s cartoons and writings but has contracted with The University of Iowa to manage rights and permissions.
Darling wrote three articles that give particularly strong voice to his conservation beliefs: "Conserving Our Wild Life" (1935); "The Story of the Ground Water Table" (1944); and "Conservation Education" (1950).
