Medieval manuscripts, once considered appropriate for recycling (leaves were often used as paste-downs of newer manuscripts), today are treasured and studied by artists, historians, musicians, and theologians. This digital presentation of the Medieval Manuscripts Collection held in the Special Collections Department of the University of Iowa Libraries allows educators access to examples of medieval culture in their classrooms and scholars the opportunity to view and study the works in new ways. In addition to text, many of these manuscripts include decorated initials and elaborate illustrations.
