Description: Documents the steps performed in the conservation laboratory by William Anthony, University Libraries Conservator, to restore and conserve the 1857 Iowa Constitution. The binding is first removed and the book carefully taken apart, followed by dry cleaning, washing and deacidifying each page, repairing torn and broken pages, treating the leather binding, and sewing the binding to the restored book. Includes a brief history of the writing of the 1857 Constitution.
