you meet such interesting PEOPLE / RALPH KAPLAN has been appointed adminis¬ trative assistant to the president of Times Mir¬ ror's book publishing division. Mr. Kaplan, who will have offices in New York, has been with Doubleday for the past five years, and since 1963 has been manager of the research department. Earlier he was with National Forge Co., Irvine, Pennsylvania, as research manager. ESTHER JEAN WALLS has joined Franklin Book Programs and will direct a new project that seeks to collect reading material for use by adults who have recently become literate. A member of the New York Public Library staff since 1949, Miss Walls formerly was in charge of the Countee Cullen branch and most recently directed the North Manhattan Library Project, a government study of li¬ brary service in a disadvantaged community.
