General Land Office Survey Maps
United States. Surveyor General
1832/1914
The General Land Office (GLO) surveys, circa 1832-1859, are manuscript maps of Iowa townships, providing a detailed record of the landscape in its earliest stages of transformation by Euro-American settlement. The maps include such features as Native American villages and fields; the first farmsteads, town sites and fields established by settlers; networks of trails; and distribution of rivers, woods, prairies, wetlands and springs.
