Project description by students: We analyzed Boonie's on the Avenue and the restaurant's contributions to the Blue Zones Project. Searching through the numerous project options, we decided we wanted to research the development of restaurants in the Muscatine community. We learned that certain restaurants were making changes to their dining environment and menus to improve the community. The restaurants making these changes are involved with the Blue Zones Project in Muscatine, a project dedicated to the health and wellness of individuals and communities. The addition of outdoor seating to Salvatores, Guadalajara, Avenue Subs, and Boonie's on the Avenue is the main way that these restaurants are getting involved with the Project. We chose to focus our narrative and research on Boonie's because it was the only restaurant in Muscatine that was going to build a platform to add outdoor seating, unlike the other restaurants, which were simply adding more seating on the sidewalks. Boonie's is going above and beyond with their contribution of the outdoor seating, which will take over the parking spaces that are currently located in front of the restaurant.
