Musical Notation
-
Musical Notation: Black square neumes often connected, with varied spacing. Very straight edges. There are several ligatures, no accidentals. Measures are present. On the recto these consist of single very faint, thin lines. On the verso, the measures are marked with double thin lines. The first chant appears to be Mode 1. The first staff and the first 1/3rd of the second staff on the recto have no musical notation written.
-
Initials and Capitals
-
Initials and Capitals: There are three decorated capitals. On the recto is a decorated "T" (for Timete) that begins the chant (placed at the beginning of staff 3). This is a red and blue capital within a decorated square block. Both inside and outside of the letter are thin red lines of interwoven chain, flower motifs, and straight parallels. This letter takes up the space of both the staff and the text for staff three. On the verso there are two decorated capitals. The first is the capital "B" (for Benedicam) at the end of staff three. It takes up the entire space of the staff and the text. It is black only but decorated with parallel curved lines that form, follow and extend beyond the B. There is also a decorated "T" (for Timete) at the beginning of the seventh staff. This takes up the entire staff and text space. This is a red T with blackish (or dark purple) decorated inside and out, similar to the letter on the recto, forming a square block capital.
-
Rubrication
-
Rubrication: Chant titles are in red and placed on the second 1/2 of the second staff, i.e. "Cyriaci Largi et Smaragdi martyrum. Dstm (or O stm for Omnium sanctum)." Also rubricated is the folio number (lxvi) and the type of chant. On the verso in the middle of staff 3 is a "v" placed in the text space. This is followed by "Benedicam dominum... (in black.) There is also a "R." placed at the end of the sixth staff.
-
Annotations
-
Marginal Notation, Annotations: There is a "R. 1." written in brown ink just below the last staff on the recto.
