Frank Miller was born on March 28, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. Miller was introduced to cartooning at an early age by his father, who was a political cartoonist for the Kansas City Star. The younger Miller studied art at the University of Kansas and the Kansas City Art Institute before serving in the military in the early 1950s. In 1953, Miller joined the Des Moines Register where he embarked on a distinguished career in editorial cartooning. Miller’s work was widely syndicated and he received a number of awards, including the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 1963. Miller remained with the Register until his untimely death in 1983.
