University of Iowa journalism faculty member Judy Polumbaum reads from her new book about changes in contemporary China. Polumbaum's book, "China Ink: The Changing Face of Chinese Journalism," approaches its subject through the oral histories of 20 young Chinese journalists, many of whom began their careers in the shadow of the Tiananmen Square events of 1989. Polumbaum's research has focused on journalism and media in the People's Republic of China. She did her undergraduate work in East Asian studies at McGill University in Montreal and has a master's from Columbia University and a doctorate in communication from Stanford University. She has worked as a newspaper reporter in Vermont, California and Oregon, and also has worked for English-language news organizations in China. She is an affiliated faculty member in several international and interdisciplinary programs and centers at the UI, including the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies and International Studies.
Live From Prairie Lights was a live public radio program broadcast from Prairie Lights, an independent bookstore in Iowa City, Iowa. The program showcased new and established writers from around the world.
