An interview for the Africa Division of the Voice of America's "Conversations with African Writers" series, which included interviews with more than 80 African writers during the 1970s. Additional information about this series can be found in Lee Nichols' African Writers at the Microphone (Washington, D.C.: Three Continents Press, 1984). Cordor was a 1979 participant in the University of Iowa's International Writing Program. Liberian teacher, journalist, and author Cordor discusses African identity and the social issues addressed by writers; themes in his own work include traditional customs, urban life for migrant workers, and missionary life in Africa. He explains the unique history of Liberia and the country's literary history. Works read by Cordor: excerpts from "In the Hospital" and The Right to Question. For technical reasons, Cordor's answers are read by a studio reader in this interview.
