Ch'ang-wan Cho describes his childhood outside of Seoul, student poltical action, Catholic coversion, and first book of poetry "Lazarus Village at Dawn." He describes the influence of European literature on the development of Korean literature, his process of writing, traditional Korean music, and the persecution of Catholics in Asia. Further subjects of discussion are the intrinsic nature of man and literary critic. Barnabas Okiring Erone discusses his childhood education in Uganda, his mentor, the developement from writing prose to poetry, the role of politics in art, and the pressures on the artist under the Idi Amin regime. Other topics include the balance between experimentation and populism in art. Yanxiang Shao describes becoming a writer during a time of political upheaval in China, the Cultural Revolution, and his fear of political persecution. Masuri bin Salikun discusses village life outside of Singapore City, cultural/racial segregation, British colonialism, and the Japanese occupation during World War Two. He further discusses his evolution from school teacher to serious writer.
The recording becomes difficult to understand after the 1:33:00 mark, and then it becomes unintelligible after the 1:40:00 mark. Much of Masuri bin Salikun's talk is lost.
